L.E.A.N. Coach Advisory Board

Our advisory board members are key in helping the L.E.A.N. organization develop our roadmap to continue to create the best and most effective programs that positively impact the health of families around the world.  Additionally, they provide insight into our continued efforts to improve on and expand our support system for existing Coaches.  Dr. Sears L.E.A.N. is honored to have such a talented group of professionals and Certified L.E.A.N. Coaches as part of the team.

Almut Stephan-Marino, M.S., R.D., L.D., C.C.

Almut Marino, the “ChefMomRD,” is a Certified L.E.A.N. Coach and health and nutrition educator in the St. Louis area.

Almut is a registered dietitian and certified chef with a Masters of Science degree in nutrition and health education.  As a Dr. Sears Certified L.E.A.N. Coach, Almut teaches parents and caregivers how to implement healthy lifestyle behaviors at home, school, work and on the run.

Almut is the head cook at the Maplewood-Richmond Heights School District’s Early Childhood Center where she cooks up delicious, seasonal and locally grown school lunches.  As an adjunct professor at St. Louis Community College and Barnes-Jewish College – Goldfarb School of Nursing, she instructs future chefs and nurses in hands-on nutrition classes.  Almut has been teaching food, nutrition, green living and financial programs in the St. Louis area since 1996.

Almut enjoys keeping fit, organic gardening and spending time with her husband Mike and their two sons David and Seppi.  Almut’s mission is to help build a healthier St. Louis, one family at a time by empowering and equipping parents and caregivers with practical skills for healthy living through exceptional health and nutrition education.

Angela Garvie, B.S.

Angela worked in the corporate world for 17 years and holds degrees in Computer Science and Marketing.  After having children, she became very passionate about what her children ate and made sure they have lots of physical activity.  While always trying to make good food choices, it was her son, Ian’s, Science Fair project on how “evil” fast food is that really made Angela take a closer look at what she was feeding her family and make even better decisions.  After her brother’s stroke 3 years ago, Angela got the wake-up call she needed to start exercising again herself.  She now does marathons and triathalons and feels better than she ever has.

Angela’s passion led her to become a Certified L.E.A.N. Coach and develop Kids Club Lean. She has taught classes for numerous locations including running stores, in-class field trips at schools, mom’s clubs, and much more! Angela’s goal is to help parents understand  how easy it is to incorporate the L.E.A.N. fundamentals into their family life.

Becky Bishop, B.A., J.D.

Becky Bishop, the Healthy Food Fashionista, is a healthy eating and lifestyle educator and coach. She is the founder of www.HealthyFoodFashionista.com, a website devoted to helping people makeover their kitchen and transform their lives. As a certified L.E.A.N. (Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude, Nutrition) Coach, Becky is dedicated to helping people of all ages make healthier life-long choices by teaching Dr. Sears’ scientifically proven, clinically based L.E.A.N. Programs to adults, children, parents, caregivers, educators and corporations in private and group settings. Becky has also served as the nutrition educator for a Head Start preschool in St. Louis. She is the author of numerous soon to be released e-books and e-cookbooks. Becky has been featured on the Great Day St. Louis television show as well as the web-radio show, Conscious Manifesting. She is also a columnist for the new holistic living magazine, The Rising.

In addition to her passion for teaching others about the powerful benefits of a whole food based diet, Becky is a wife and a mother to 12 year old twins. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas. She practiced law for over 15 years and is a certified mediator.

Kim McColl, B.S.

Helping to cultivate healthier, happier lives for herself, her family and others is truly Kim McColl’s passion. She works with doctors, hospitals, families, corporations and other organizations to promote wellness.

After acquiring a degree in Biology and Marketing from James Madison University, Kim spent 12 years with Xerox Corporation in sales and product line management.She first became interested in health and nutrition 12 years ago while working for Xerox. It was then that she realized just how much corporations stand to gain by employing a healthy workforce – Kim learned first hand that healthy employees translate DIRECTLY into a healthier bottom line.

Kim’s passion stems from her strong desire to connect personally with people. By learning where an individual is on their path to wellness, and by truly understanding the lifestyle in which they will thrive, Kim can successfully educate clients in simple, effective ways they can live happier, healthier lives.

It was while Kim was expecting her first child that she came to fully appreciate the opportunity she had to help create a boundlessly happy and healthy person. That when her REAL life’s work began: To help herself and others understand how Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude and Nutrition work together to enable us to be the best we can be. Going LEAN was one of the easiest transitions her family has ever made, and she is passionate about sharing these life-changing tools with others.

Kristen Horler, BA, ACE Cert. Personal Trainer & Continuing Education Provider

Kristen is Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Baby Boot Camp. She is also part of ePregnancy magazine’s expert panel as a fitness contributor and a continuing education provider for the American Council on Exercise (ACE). She has been a certified Spinning instructor since 1997, an ACE certified personal trainer since 1999, a Balanced Body Pilates instructor since 2000, as well as a certified pre- and post-natal fitness instructor since 2000. Kristen is also a regular presenter on body mechanics, the impact of pregnancy on exercise and how to safely exercise through bedrest. Prior to becoming a fitness professional, she earned a B.A. degree in physical anthropology from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Horler makes her home in Florida with her husband and two childrenwhere she continues to develop and refine the Baby Boot Camp program.

Laura Goll, B.S., M.Ed., Certified Personal Trainer

Laura Goll has served as an enthusiastic elementary school teacher since 2003. When her dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, she and her family prayerfully researched nutritional options. This experience fueled her passion and a deep feeling of responsibility to continue to learn and share how simple changes make a profound difference.

Laura’s desire to reach young people and families led her to develop and integrate engaging nutrition curriculum into the nationally tested curriculum. She is an energetic nutrition presenter in schools, churches, and the community. As a Certified L.E.A.N. Coach, Laura has the opportunity to serve a broader community. She is excited as former students and their families share how they have benefited from a lasting commitment to wellness.

Laura is an avid athlete, setting records and earning Academic All-Ohio honors for track and field in high school and a national ranking in volleyball in college. In her leisure time, she balances training for sports and events such as triathlons with her other interests of reading, music, and art. She recognizes personally how L.E.A.N. principles allow us to pursue life to our fullest God-given potential.

Laura earned her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education at Grove City College and her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Technology from Grand Canyon University. She is a Certified Personal Trainer with the American Council on Exercise.

Linda Oliver, B.A.

Linda Oliver is a retired Montessori and Christian School teacher. She spent 17 years in Montessori education, teaching children from 3-6 and 6-9 years old. She also directed several Montessori Schools and was a Consultant for the American Montessori Association. Her greatest achievement during this time was developing a patent on a mathematics apparatus, which enabled children to add and subtract positive and negative numbers. She has a BA major in Child Development from St Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

After leaving Montessori education, Linda began a career teaching in two Christian schools. She taught 2nd through 6th grade during the 11 years before retiring in 2003. Her greatest achievement was orchestrating the start of a Christian School at her church.

Linda holds certifications as a Health Coach from The Wellness Coaching Institute™ and as a Dr. Sears LEAN coach. She has led seminars at several A.C.S.I. (Association of Christian Schools International) Conferences in Galveston, Texas and is an active member of Retired Teachers of Canyon Lake (Health Chair), New Braunfels Toastmasters Club 1722 (President), Central Texas Advocates for Seniors (Board member), the Wellness Forum (www.wellnessforum.com ), Member of Translational Advisory Board (TAB), L.E.A.N. Coach Advisory Board (CAB), Business Networking International (BNI), and Bible Studies.

Thomas Otley

Tom Otley is the Senior Vice President-Global Services for Dale Carnegie Training  in O’Fallon, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. Mr. Otley earned his Masters in Human Resource Management from Lindenwood University and studied Leading Product Development at  Harvard Business School of Executive Education and Innovation & Organizational Change at John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Mr. Otley along with his wife became a Certified L.E.A.N. Coach in 2010. Their interest in health and wellness and educating others started when they experienced a health crisis within their own family. Fatigue prevented Tom’s wife from doing things that were rewarding and important to her as a wife and mother. Together, they began to realize the importance of their Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude and Nutrition choices and made it their mission to teach others the same principles that helped their family survive.

Sue Parks, M.S., R.D., C.S.S.D., L.D., C.P.T.

Sue was born in New York City, and raised in New Jersey. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she received her Masters of Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in Nutrition with an emphasis on Maternal and Infant/Child nutrition. In addition, she has the following certifications: Certified Personal Trainer from the American Council on Exercise, and a Certified specialist in Sports Dietetics from the American Dietetics Association. As a registered licensed dietitian since 1975 she has developed several weight management programs and has started her own consulting company, HealtheNutrifit. She personalizes clients’ nutrition and exercise needs by analyzing their metabolism. This personalized attention sets Sue’s knowledge and skills apart from other registered licensed dietitians/nutritionists and health coaches. Her areas of expertise besides weight management are eating disorders, disordered eating, pediatric and family nutrition, food sensitivities/allergies, and healthy eating and cooking.

In addition, as a Certified Personal Trainer with the American Council on Exercise, she has trained several running groups, and Olympic eligible athletes. She has lectured locally and nationally on nutrition and exercise over the past 30 years, and has been on staff at various health clubs.

Her goal as a nutrition and exercise professional and health coach is to provide sound tips and information for good health, pertaining to foods and activity of all ages, and thereby decreasing disease and suffering from diseases that can be decreased through prevention.

Wendy Bullock, B.A. & LPGA Class A Golf Professional

Wendy Werley Bullock has made teaching the game of golf one of her life passions. As a young child she was introduced to the mind body approach by one of Golf’s Greats, Paul Runyon, PGA Hall of Famer. She was Colorado’s Top Junior Golfer and Tennis Player for most of the late 70’s and 80’s. Wendy then played at the University of New Mexico on a full golf scholarship from 1985-1989 then graduating and moving on to play professionally in the United States and in Japan through 1994.

In 2001 Wendy trademarked Wellness Golf, a program developed through her collaboration with Dr. Deepak Chopra, one of the world’s most foremost experts in mind body medicine. He then wrote a book, Golf for Enlightenment, based on her teachings. Her approach to teaching golf incorporates sound fundamentals, mental discipline, fitness coaching and nutrition which she attributes to years of training with world-renowned performance psychologist, Dr. James Loehr.

In 2002 Wendy had her first child and was introduced to Dr. Sears’ books and became a huge fan. It was easy for her to apply his nutrition teachings because of her own sound nutritional path as a professional athlete. When she became a Dr. Sears LEAN Coach in 2007 it was the nutrition program she was looking for to integrate into her junior golf programs. She is currently the Co-Director of Golf Instruction & Wellness for the Affiniti Golf Academy based in Alpharetta, Georgia. Her responsibilities include the management of Academy golf professionals and instructional programs at over 10 locations in the Southeast. The Academy’s main focus has been to teach junior golf and to integrate Dr. Sears’ L.E.A.N. program in its program curriculum taught by Wendy. She was just named a Top 50 Honorable Mention Golf Instructor Worldwide by USKids Golf, the leader in junior golf equipment, instructional programs and tournaments for ages 6-17.
