Cereal is a good source of carbohydrates, which we need for energy, and most of us love cereal. but some cereals are nothing more than “junk carbs” – lots of sugar, but not much nutritional value. “Junk Carbs” are a leading cause of obesity. to avoid junk food cereals, look carefully at the nutrition label on the box before you buy it.

When selecting cereal look for the following:

  • Cereal made from whole grains, not just “wheat”
  • At least 3 grams of protein per serving
  • Less than 6 grams of sugar per serving
  • At least 3 grams of fiber per serving
  • No hydrogenated oils, artificial preservatives, artificial colors, or high fructose corn syrup

@ Tshepiso Your fast metabolism probably allows you to burn off most of the calories from what you eat, but if you aren't eating QUALITY foods, they are going to do damage to your body eventually. Be sure to incorporate fresh whole foods into your diet and stay away from foods that have high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and artificial colors and flavors.

@ Wendy You are correct that most yogurt drinks and "kid" yogurt are packed full of sugar and artificial colors that aren't good for your kids. There are some brands out there that are better though! Try for a plain Greek yogurt and mix in honey as a sweetener. Top with some easy fresh or frozen fruit (apples, bananas, berries, etc) and some nuts and you have a great breakfast! The trick to all food selection is reading the label!

What about yogurt drinks, like Danamals or squeeze yogurts? They are full of sugar, but so is all flavored yogurt...
